The Sioux Falls Family YMCA is currently looking to hire a part-time Child Development Center Assistant at the YMCA's Child Development Center.   The center is located at 2512 South Carolyn Avenue in Sioux Falls.   The assistant will work up to 27 hours per week Monday through Friday.   

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Child Development Director, the Child Development Center Assistant will provide direction for the classroom and implement curriculum which promotes social, cultural, educational, physical and emotional growth.  This position will also provide a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must meet educational and experience qualifications established by the Department of Social Services for licensing requirements.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must obtain, and keep current, certification in CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to physically participate in children's activities and evacuation drills, move about the classroom and playground, take neighborhood walks, and lift children.
  • Must be able to drive and transport children in center vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 6 months experience working with children in an educational environment.  
  • Associates degree in relevant field.  
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities and curriculum.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations; ability to develop positive and authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of DSS program standards.  

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Maintains DSS program standards.
  • Implements daily lesson/activity plans to support a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities; ensures care and safety of children.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child according to the required schedule.
  • Assists in conducting parent conferences, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. 
  • Maintains classroom and equipment, and adheres to the scheduled cleaning.
  • Maintains required program records including attendance, medical, and food service records.
  • Adheres to posted schedule, curriculum and menus according to regulation.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, staff meetings, staff training, and YMCA special events.
  • Additional duties as required and assigned by a supervisor to support the overall mission of the YMCA and to ensure the success of the Child Development Center.


Required Certifications

  • Pass criminal background & state required checks
  • Clear driving record and valid license 
  • First Aid / CPR (Must be willing to attain)
