The Sioux Falls Family YMCA Youth Development Department is looking to hire multiple program assistants to work at any one of our after school sites (George McGovern, Whittier, Edison, Memorial, Patrick Henry, Baltic, and at our Youth Performance Center).

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Program Leader, the Program Assistant is responsible for providing leadership and support towards desired levels of excellence in the YMCA Y-Club Navigators After School Programs at host sites. This will include managing student behavior and the classroom culture, implementing curriculum, and supervising enrichment and recreation workshops. Additionally, this position will support association-wide implementation of Youth Development curriculum, including training and evaluation.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Report directly to and communicate effectively with the Program Leader.
  • Assist the Program Leader in thorough record keeping for all Y-Club Participants.
  • Supervise participants during all program procedures and activities to ensure fun and safety.
  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with participant parents and other family members.
  • Work with Program Leader in implementing curriculum for the Y-Club After School Program.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with the school administration and other staff, parents, and community members. Attend meetings and conferences as appropriate to support program quality.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings on a regular basis to evaluate the program curriculum and activities, and discuss issues and concerns.
  • Work and be available to meet program needs from 3:15pm to 6:30pm Monday through Friday, or as approved by the Program Director and Program Leader.
  • Accurately record hours worked on your timesheet and submit to the Program Leader each Friday.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of daily activities under the instruction of the Program Leader.
  • Implement disciplinary action under the direction of the Program Leader and report discipline issues to be recorded in the student Behavior Log.
  • Coordinate with the Program Leader to ensure each bus has a shotgun as applicable.
  • Ensure students remain the focus of the program.

  • You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • All employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary authority over minors. Background checks will be completed for all employees prior to beginning the first day of work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience supervising children.
  • First Aid/CPR certified or willing to attain certification within 90 days of employment.
